SAN JOSE — The Sharks did not get any type of positive news Friday on Joel Ward as the winger will be out for an indefinite period with what appears to be an upper body injury.
Although Ward has not typically been counted this season on to log heavy minutes for the Sharks, his injury will further test the team’s forward depth with center Joe Thornton already out for an undetermined amount of time.
While the Sharks might not be able to replace everything that Thornton brings via trade — with the cost of bringing in another top-six forward likely too steep — they can scour the market for a winger or a centerman to bolster their bottom two forward lines at a reasonable price.
