SAN JOSE — After Patrick Marleau left the Sharks to sign a three-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, former-top pick Timo Meier assured General Manager Doug Wilson that the team can get by without its all-time leading scorer.
When Wilson asked Meier at Sharks development camp this week whether he needed to find another left winger to fill Marleau’s spot on the roster, the 20-year-old forward responded by saying: “I’m ready.”
“I want that challenge and I want to do it,” Meier said, reflecting on his exchange with Wilson. “It takes a lot of hard work and commitment, but I’m ready for it, and I’m going to do everything that it takes to get there.
