Arguably the greatest defenseman in Sharks history, Dan Boyle is expected to announce his retirement from the NHL in a press conference on Wednesday at SAP Center.
Boyle played 1093 career games in the NHL, the majority of which came with San Jose. In 431 games with the Sharks in six seasons from 2008-14, Boyle posted 68 goals and 201 assists for 269 points. He is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer among defensemen.
Boyle began his career in Florida as an undrafted free agent, and spent his first three-and-a-half seasons with the Panthers. He was traded to Tampa Bay midway through the 2002-03 season, and spent parts of six seasons with the Lightning, winning a Stanley Cup there in 2004.
