Columbus head coach John Tortorella paced up and down the bench, trying to keep his team’s spirits high as it faced its first two-goal deficit since November.
The Blue Jackets just didn’t have it in Washington on Thursday as their winning streak ended at 16 games with a 5-0 loss to the Capitals. Columbus fell one shy of the NHL record for consecutive wins set by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.
“We handled ourselves well throughout it,” Columbus wing Boone Jenner said. “It’s not like anything’s ending. It’s Game 37 right now and we’ve just got a ways to go for what we want to get to.
