Barracuda meet their match in Game 1 of Western Conference Final

SAN JOSE — After 68 regular season games and two rounds of playoffs, the Barracuda are finally meeting their match.

The Grand Rapids Griffins took a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference Final Saturday by overwhelming the Barracuda in a 3-1 win at the SAP Center with a style of play that mirrors their own.

Mitch Callahan opened the scoring at 6:45 of the first, sliding behind center Danny O’Regan on a backdoor feed from Eric Tangradi and beating goalie Troy Grosenick from the doorstep.

Tangradi also picked up an assist on the Griffins second goal at 9:53 of the opening stanza when Ben Street jammed the puck past Grosenick from the side of the net.
