SAN JOSE — After dominating the San Diego Gulls for almost three periods, the Barracuda allowed Game 1 to slip away Friday, surrendering the game-tying goal with 3:56 left in regulation and the winner just 38 seconds into overtime.
Kevin Roy broke a 2-2 tie in the opening minute of overtime after defenseman Tim Heed missed timed a poke check at the offensive blue line, leading a breakaway and a 3-2 Gulls win at the SAP Center.
With the win, the Gulls lead the second round Calder Cup playoff series with the Barracuda 1-0.
Nate Guenin tied the game at 16:04 of the third, beating goalie Troy Grosenick with a shot from the right point, sending a game the Barracuda dominated for three periods with a 38-15 shot edge into overtime.
