Kicking off their six-game road trip, the San Jose Barracuda special teams allowed a shorthanded goal and two power play goals en route to a 4-2 loss to the Bakersfield Condors (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) at the Rabobank Arena Friday night.
The Barracuda, who fell out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference with the lost, got two point games from froward Ryan Carpenter and defenseman Joakim Ryan, who dished out two assists. Between the pipes, goaltender Aaron Dell made 20-saves in his franchise best fifth consecutive start.
Though the Barracuda out-shot the Condors 13-5 in the first period, it was the Condors who skated into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead as the result of a shorthanded goal by forward Rob Klinkhammer, who finished off an odd man rush by beating Dell with a snap shot from inside the left face-off circle near the slot at 18:15 for his 14th goal of the season.
