Backup goalie Aaron Dell valiant, but Sharks lose 1-0

RALEIGH, N.C. — There are no moral victories in the standings, but the Sharks were impressed with the way backup goalie Aaron Dell played in a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Dell stopped 32 shots in his third career game and his second start for San Jose, allowing only Joakim Nordstrom’s goal with 9:12 remaining.

“He was excellent,” Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer said. “Gave us a chance to hang around in a game we didn’t deserve to be in. That’s all you can ask from him.
