2016 NHL Draft: Sharks select Mark Shoemaker 180th overall

The San Jose Sharks selected Mark Shoemaker with the 180th pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. The defender scored 13 points with the North Bay Battalion in his 2015-16 season.

He has logged 1.5 seasons with the Battalion, scoring a total of 18 points in 106 games. So he's not an offensive-defender by any means, but the 18-year-old is still quite young and has plenty of time to improve.

The Canadian defender stands at 6'2" and weighs 208 pounds. Shoemaker registered three points in 11 playoff games with North Bay in 2016.

This is San Jose's fourth pick of the draft and the first non-center.
