2016 NHL Draft: Sharks select Manuel Wiederer in fifth round

The San Jose Sharks took their third center of the draft in the fifth round, selecting Manuel Wiederer out of Germany with the 150th pick. The German played with the Moncton Wildcats in the 2015-16 season, scoring 64 points in 54 games in the high-scoring QMJHL.

Wiederer was a part of the Moncton team that lost to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the semifinals of the QMJHL playoffs. In that series, Wiederer scored just one goal as the Wildcats were eliminated in six games by the Huskies.

Wiederer’s numbers in Germany are nothing to write home about, but he seemed to find his scoring touch in the QMJHL (as many do).
