Earthquakes midfielder Matheus Silva is in critical but stable condition after being rescued while swimming in Lake Tahoe on Tuesday morning, the team announced.

In a brief release, team officials said the 6-foot-2 Brazilian received “life-saving resuscitation” after being pulled out of the water. Silva, 20, was taken to a hospital in Lake Tahoe before being airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Silva has spent the season on loan with the Earthquakes’ United Soccer League affiliate Reno 1868 FC.
