BRONX, N.Y. — The San Jose Earthquakes allowed two goals within a three-minute span late in the first half and suffered the consequences in a 2-1 MLS loss to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakes (13-12-5, 44 points), who entered the day sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference, suffered their second successive defeat as their road losing streak reached five games.
NYCFC (16-5-9, 57), which leads the Eastern Conference behind a seven-game unbeaten streak, played without its leading goal-scorer Heber (quad) and top playmaker Maxi Moralez (hamstring).
The Quakes drew first blood on a nifty bang-bang play in the 20th minute.
