The San Jose Earthquakes certainly had their moments and chances on Saturday, but they lost their second game of the week at PayPal Park, falling via 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Portland Timbers.
The Quakes weren’t quite clicking even like they did in their midweek loss to the Seattle Sounders, but they certainly weren’t terrible in this game, with a couple defensive breakdowns and a suddenly stuttering attack halting their good momentum to start the season.
Matias Almeyda made four changes to his starting XI from the midweek game, bringing in Paul Marie, Oswaldo Alanís, Luciano Abecasis and Andy Rios.
