San Jose Earthquakes start off with win under new coach

SAN JOSE – New coach Mikael Stahre promised to bring an attacking, pressing style to the San Jose Earthquakes.

So far, so good.

The Earthquakes scored the first three goals and held on for a 3-2 win in the season opener at Avaya Stadium behind a brace from Dutch forward Danny Hoesen and a goal and two assists from Georgian national Vako. Kevin Molino scored twice in the final 10 minutes for Minnesota.

The teams last met here at the end of the 2017 regular season, when the Earthquakes scored a stoppage-time winner to clinch their first playoff appearance in five years.
