cSAN JOSE — The Earthquakes rank 13th out of 22 teams in total spending, according to figures released this week by the Major League Soccer Players Union.
The Quakes’ payroll is $6.95 million, well below the league’s biggest spenders Toronto FC ($22.48 million) and New York City FC ($17.93 million).
But San Jose (2-3-2) could get a big bump during the summer transfer window if general manager Jesse Fioranelli seeks a high-priced designated player to compensate for his team’s slow start this season.
Chris Wondolowski and Simon Dawkins topped the Earthquakes’ payroll, each making $800,000 in guaranteed compensation.
