SAN JOSE – The San Jose Earthquakes suffered a gut-punch of a loss Sunday, but it came with a silver lining – because of other results, the Quakes are still alive for a playoff berth heading into the final day of the season.
Former Stanford star Jordan Morris scored in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time to give the Seattle Sounders (15-10-8, 53 points) a 1-0 win in the final home game of the season at Avaya Stadium.
With the top seven teams qualifying for the playoffs, the Earthquakes (13-15-5, 44 points) remain in eighth place, one point behind FC Dallas (12-12-9, 45 points) and two points behind Portland (13-13-7, 46 points).
