SAN JOSE — The San Jose Earthquakes benefited from an own goal in the second minute and extended their season-high winning streak to four matches with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
Valeri “Vako” Qazaishvili scored his sixth goal in seven matches, and Shea Salinas also tallied for the Earthquakes (11-7-4, 37 points), who improved to 8-1-2 in their past 11 contests overall and 8-0-1 in their last nine at home.
Daniel Vega finished with four saves for San Jose, which has outscored its foes 10-3 during its four-match winning streak.
Diego Rubio scored in the 88th minute and Clint Irwin made two saves for the Rapids (5-12-5, 20 points), who fell to 0-3-1 following a sizzling 5-0-2 stretch.
