VANCOUVER, British Columbia >> The San Jose Earthquakes gave up four second-half goals and were routed 5-0 by the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night in a Major League Soccer playoff knockout game.
Nicolas Mezquida, who substituted into the game in the second half, scored goals just two minutes apart for the Whitecaps, who won the one-game playoff before a crowd of 21,083 at BC Place Stadium. Forward Cristian Techera and defender Kendall Waston each had a goal and an assist. Freddy Montero also scored for the Whitecaps who won their first MLS playoff game after three losses and a tie.
