PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland has been a rather inhospitable host whenever the Earthquakes have come to town.
The Timbers made sure that was the case again Saturday night, defeating the visiting Quakes 2-1 at Providence Park.
Samuel Armenteros scored twice for the Timbers, ensuring that San Jose (2-10-6) – which remains dead last in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference – stayed winless on Portland’s home pitch. The Quakes have lost to the Timbers eight times in the teams’ 11 meetings in the Rose City, tying the other three.
Midfielder Florin Jungwirth scored for the Quakes in the 87th minute.
