The Earthquakes were ready to hand away three road points to a disciplined, compact, opportunistic, and a bit villainous Toronto FC side in their season opener Saturday in San Jose. Despite controlling possession for most of the game, the Quakes had been outclassed over the course of 90 minutes — a legitimate MLS Cup contender gave an upstart squad a lesson in how to steal points in this league.
But no one will remember those first 90 minutes — or the lesson — because of one moment of brilliance that stole both the narrative and a point for the Quakes.
