SAN JOSE — Danny Hoesen’s 80th-minute goal was the lone tally for the San Jose Earthquakes in their 5-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City at Avaya Stadium.
Gerso Fernandes had two goals and two assists, and Sporting Kansas City moved into first place in the Western Conference with a the victory. Sporting KC got up 3-0 in the first half.
“From my perspective, it was the worst home performance this season,” Quakes coach Mikael Stahre said. “For about 15 to 20 minutes in the start of the second half it was OK, but at that moment we were down 3-0.
