COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The surging Earthquakes hit an unexpected roadblock on Saturday.
The Colorado Rapids, last place in the Western Conference coming into the night, broke a tie in the 73rd minute on a goal by Diego Rubio and handed the Quakes a 2-1 defeat at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Quakes had a five-match unbeaten streak come to a close. It was just the fourth loss in the last 20 games for the Quakes, who missed an opportunity to move into sole possession of second place in the conference. The Quakes (11-8-5, 38 points) are tied for third with Minnesota United FC.
