SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Wednesday night behind goals from midfielder Fatai Alashe and forward Chris Wondolowski. The victory extended San Jose’s unbeaten streak at Avaya Stadium to nine games, dating back to last season.
San Jose nearly broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. After Red Bulls midfielder Felipe slipped near half-field, Wondolowski broke away and set up a one-on-one with Robles, but narrowly sent his shot wide left.
Seven minutes later, the Quakes were able to snatch the lead. Midfielder Matias Perez Garcia touched a pass to Alashe at the edge of the penalty area and his deflected shot snuck past Robles at the far post.
