San Jose Earthquakes defender Florian Jungwirth has been named to All-Newcomer Best XI by Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep.
Jungwirth made an immediate impact for San Jose after arriving from the German Bundesliga ahead of the 2017 MLS season. He finished his debut campaign with 30 appearances, all of which were starts, 2,600 minutes, two goals and three assists.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Jungwirth excelled at center back for the Quakes, proving his versatility. He was even named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Here’s what Galarcep had to say about Jungwirth:
“The German central defender was one of the few bright spots on a San Jose defense that had its share of struggles in 2017, but still did enough to help the Earthquakes reach the playoffs for the first time since 2012.
