SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Gilbert Fuentes underwent surgery on Thursday afternoon to repair a fractured clavicle sustained in an accident at home. The surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Gayle at Sutter Health and is expected to sideline the young American for two to three months.
Fuentes, 18, signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose in January 2018 as a 15-year-old, becoming the youngest player in club history at the time. He has since made two appearances for the Earthquakes in MLS regular season play and several more in friendlies. He has also made 16 appearances on loan with USL Championship side Reno 1868 FC, scoring his first professional goal in the team’s 2020 season opener.
