SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes head coach Matias Almeyda has been named the 2018 Men’s Football Coach of the Year by Concacaf, which is the continental governing body for association football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
Almeyda led Mexico’s Chivas de Guadalajara to the Concacaf Champions League title in April of 2018, their first such championship since the tournament’s inaugural competition in 1962. During the tournament, Almeyda led the Mexican side to consecutive victories over MLS clubs Seattle Sounders FC (quarterfinal), New York Red Bulls (semifinal) and Toronto FC (final).
