SAN JOSE -- The Earthquakes showed they won't sit idle to become a serious playoff contender, announcing Friday they have signed versatile fullback Kofi Sarkodie.
Sarkodie appeared 98 times for the Houston Dynamo, who traded the defender for targeted allocation money."He can play in this league," Quakes coach Dominic Kinnear said.Kinnear took the 5-foot-9 Akron defender as the seventh overall pick of the 2011 Major League Soccer draft when coaching the Dynamo. Sarkodie, who played on U.S. youth national teams from 2006 to 2012, is comfortable on either side of the defense. He started the first 10 games last year for Houston, but then appeared only six more times.
