Earthquakes notch road win at Vancouver

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Earthquakes ended two droughts on a hot Friday night in Vancouver.

Simon Dawkins' goal in the 61st minute proved to be the winner as the Quakes edged the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 at previously unfriendly B.C. Place Stadium.The win was the first on the road this season and first-ever in Major League Soccer play in Vancouver for the Quakes. More importantly, the victory enabled the Quakes to overtake the Whitecaps (8-11-6) in the race for a Western Conference playoff spot. The Quakes now sit seventh, just one point back of sixth-place Portland.Quincy Amarikwa scored in the first half for the Quakes (7-6-10).
