SAN JOSE — Starting midfielder Anibal Godoy won’t play in the Earthquakes’ home game Saturday night against the Columbus Crew because of a left knee sprain, but is expected to return for the U.S. Open Cup semifinal.
A source familiar with the situation said the Panamanian international should be available when the Quakes travel to Sporting Kansas City next Wednesday for the Open Cup match.
Godoy was not eligible to play in last weekend against the Colorado Rapids because he had reached the limit of yellow cards allowed by Major League Soccer. But the central midfielder has struggled with the knee injury for 1 ½ months, according to a report from RPCTV of Panama.
