SAN JOSE — The Earthquakes opened training camp Tuesday with a lot of missing pieces heading into the 2017 Major League Soccer season that is supposed to mark a major shift for the floundering club.
The questions have nothing to do with the absences of All-Stars Chris Wondolowski and David Bingham, and Darwin Ceren (El Salvador) and Harold Cummings (Panama). Those players are training with their respective national teams after getting called to international duty.
The Quakes are a work in progress before the season opener March 4 at Avaya Stadium against the Montreal Impact because they have too many holes to be considered a serious threat.
