SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Clarence Goodson underwent a successful discectomy on Thursday afternoon to repair a herniated disc in his back. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles and is expected to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the 2016 season.
Goodson, 34, started the first two games for San Jose this season, helping the Quakes earn victories against the Colorado Rapids (1-0) and Portland Timbers (2-1) before sustaining the injury. The defender joined the Earthquakes on June 28, 2013 from Denmark’s Brondby IF and has appeared and started in 49 MLS regular season games during his four seasons with the club.
