Earthquakes can’t get win despite lineup changes

SAN JOSE – Just as the Earthquakes seem to have stabilized their shaky backline, their offense has stopped scoring.

San Jose (2-12-7, 13 points) earned its first clean sheet of the season but was held scoreless for the third straight game in a scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at Avaya Stadium.

Aided by the presence of centerback Guram Kashia, the Georgian national team captain who joined the Quakes last week, the Earthquakes avoided the kinds of critical turnovers and defensive breakdowns that have doomed them all season. But their recent scoring drought has left them with four fewer points than any other team in the MLS.
