SAN JOSE — Cordell Cato, an Earthquakes winger/defender, has been sent home from the Trinidad and Tobago national team and will not take part in upcoming World Cup qualifying matches, the island’s soccer federation announced.
According to Trinidad and Tobago online newspaper Wired868, coach Dennis Lawrence dismissed Cato after he brought his wife and child to a team camp in Colorado ahead of a game Thursday against the United States. The newspaper reported that Cato asked the coach if his family could stay with him at the team hotel or at another hotel.
The island soccer federation said in a news release that the Quakes’ player was dropped for disciplinary reasons.
