The San Jose Earthquakes didn’t exist when Joe Cannon graduated from St. Francis High in Mountain View in 1993.
The franchise was baptized three years later as the San Jose Clash and took part in the inaugural contest of Major League Soccer. At the time, Cannon, who shifted from forward to goalkeeper at roughly the age of 14, was guarding the cage at Santa Clara University.
“As I got older, that became where my future was,” Cannon said.
More than two decades later, their paths have intertwined numerous times, with Cannon scheduled to be inducted to Earthquakes Hall of Fame during halftime of Saturday’s match against Seattle Sounders FC.
