LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2019)-A nosebleed and the Shattuck-St. Mary's defense couldn't stop Cade Cowell from finding the back of the net on Wednesday. Cowell scored twice, once in each half, and set up another goal to pace the San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-1 triumph on the opening day of the 2019 Allstate U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Cup in a U-18/19 Group D clash.
The Earthquakes and Cowell, who signed with the club as a Homegrown Player in January, wasted little time finding the back of the net. The 17-year-old attacker fired a shot from the left side of the penalty area past goalkeeper Xavier Valdez to score in the first minute.
