Zack Greinke spurns Giants, to sign with surprise team

Zach Greinke, the top free-agent pitcher left on the market and a Giants target, has stunned baseball by reaching agreement with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Foxsports.com reporter Ken Rosenthal. CBSsports.com is reporting that Greinke will get a six-year deal.

The Chronicle has not been able to confirm the reports. The Giants are not commenting and had not publicly confirmed their interest in Greinke.

The race to sign the 2015 National League Cy Young runner-up was pegged as a competition between the two richest teams in the National League West, the Giants and Dodgers.
