PHILADELPHIA - First came Christian Arroyo, then Orlando Calixte, and on Friday, Austin Slater. The Giants, seemingly going nowhere, are starting June in a decidedly more prospect-driven direction.
"We're going to look at these young guys and see what we have with them," manager Bruce Bochy said. "Slater is here hopefully to help this offense out."
Slater, a 24-year-old Stanford alum, started in right field in his big-league debut and hit an RBI single against lefty Joely Rodriguez in a highly irregular 10-0 rout of the Phillies.
The Giants crossed the country to find an even more forlorn team.
