Mike Yastrzemski launched one into McCovey Cove in the 6th to break a 3-3 tie and Zack Littell, John Brebbia, and Camilo Doval held the line and the Giants hung on for a big win, their 16th. Doval whiffed Nolan Arenado with Paul Goldschmidt on second base to secure the save. It was baseball torture: the Giants had seven hits and seven walks but left ten men on base and were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. St. Louis pitchers only recorded one strikeout and gave up 17 ground balls. It is, at least, a familiar style of baseball, and perhaps the Giants would do well to play familiar baseball.
