BOSTON — When Mike Yastrzemski celebrated his 23rd birthday in August, 2013, the outfielder was wrapping up his first professional season with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, the Baltimore Orioles’ short-season affiliate.
After growing up in Andover, Massachusetts and spending four years playing college baseball at Vanderbilt, it was only when Yastrzemski turned 23 that he began to comprehend the magnitude of his grandfather Carl’s Hall of Fame career.
“That was kind of the big shocking moment,” Mike said Tuesday.
