CHICAGO — The Giants see their visit to under-construction Wrigley Field as just another series. The Cubs see it as a bigger deal. They view the Giants as a team to beat to reach the playoffs.
Like the 101-year-old facility that’s having a makeover, the Cubs are a work in progress with many talented young players lining up for future stardom. Meantime, the Cubs are trying to sneak into the playoffs this year for the first time since 2008.
Their 5-4 victory over the Giants on Thursday night put them a half-game ahead of San Francisco for the second wild-card spot.
