The Giants battered the Cardinals with 17 hits, scoring in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 9th innings to win their 35th game. Alex Cobb had an ugly opening frame, throwing 32 pitches and giving up three hits, a walk, and two runs. He managed three more frames, all scoreless, and was lifted after 79 pitches. Luke Jackson put up a zero in the 5th and rookie Keaton Winn was summoned for the 6th. He got six outs before giving up a run in the 8th and then finished the 9th 1-2-3 with a strikeout to end it.
