CHICAGO - Forty percent of the Giants’ projected rotation have lost their starting jobs now that Matt Cain has been turned into a reliever.
Manager Bruce Bochy met with Cain Thursday to tell him Albert Suarez is starting Friday’s game at Wrigley Field and that Cain’s new role would be in long relief.
“As far as where everybody’s at, we think we’re better off with Suarez,” said Bochy, adding Cain is “better suited for helping us in the bullpen.”
Jake Peavy lost his rotation spot when the Giants traded for Matt Moore on July 31 and is on the disabled list with a lower back strain.
