After months of futility, the Giants finally have something to play for this weekend. And all they’ve got to do is keep doing what they’ve been doing — losing.
Their magic number for “earning” the top pick in next year’s Major League Baseball draft is 3. Any combination of Giants losses at home against Arizona or wins by the Detroit Tigers in Minnesota adding up to 3 will give San Francisco the No. 1 overall pick for the first time in the 52-year history of the MLB draft.
Who says you can’t win for losing?
The Giants (62-97) entered Friday with baseball’s worst record, with the Tigers (63-96) just one game back with three games left in the regular season.
