The San Francisco Giants used longtime catcher Buster Posey and veteran Stephen Vogt who was added on a minor league deal during the offseason in a platoon of sorts behind the dish.
A wide net was cast during the offseason and Erik Kratz actually opened the season as the team’s backup catcher, while Vogt was sent to Triple-A to shake off the rust from a season lost to shoulder surgery.
However, after a strong start at Triple-A Sacramento, Vogt was promoted to the backup role and he wound up being one of the better under-the-radar pickups of the offseason.
