SAN DIEGO–Five of the Giants’ most important pitchers are on the disabled list, but they have at least have a general idea of when four of those players will return to action.
The same can’t be said for closer Mark Melancon.
Melancon, 33, received a stem cell injection in his pronator Thursday to heal a muscle that’s been a source of pain for the pitcher since his first days with the Giants last spring.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Joshua Hackel in Pensacola, Florida after Melancon met with Dr. James Andrews to determine the best method for treating his ailing pronator.
