If the Giants have a lead in the ninth inning Sunday, they won't be turning to Trevor Gott. But that's because they can't.
Putting the stunning blown saves aside, Gott has thrown 45 pitches the last two nights and needs a breather. Tony Watson and Tyler Rogers also are unlikely to pitch a third straight day.
"We may have to go in different directions today to take down leveraged innings," manager Gabe Kapler said.
Sunday's late innings should look different, but what's the plan after that? Kapler said he spoke to Gott in the morning, and reiterated what he said after the four-run ninth Saturday, that he still has plenty of confidence in his hard-throwing right-hander.
