San Francisco Giants fans may or may not get their wish of seeing Will Clark as manager next year, but they can start preparing for a different celebration: seeing The Thrill get his number retired.
Giants president and chief executive officer Larry Baer surprised Clark and everyone else with the news Sunday during a pregame ceremony honoring the 1989 World Series team. When Clark’s 22 is retired next season, he’ll join Barry Bonds as the only two Giants not in the Hall of Fame to see their numbers taken out of commission.
Much like during his playing career, Clark didn’t hold back his emotions when addressing the Oracle Park fans.
