Hello and happy Wednesday.
Last week, the San Francisco Giants protected four players from the Rule 5 draft. And while it might have been a surprise a year ago if I told you that Kervin Castro and Gregory Santos would be protected in 2020, it wasn’t without good reason.
According to Marc Delucchi of Around the Foghorn, the two pitchers “dominated” the Instructional Leagues in the eyes of an industry source, and would have very much at risk of being drafted had they been subjected to the Rule 5 draft.
Instead, San Francisco will get to keep them on the 40-man roster, along with fellow protections Alexander Canario and Camilo Doval.
