Something very cool happened this afternoon in San Francisco: the Giants said goodbye to a living legend. Someone who was leaving on his own terms.
We may never see a manager of Bruce Bochy’s ilk and that’s not to say that the Giants haven’t had wonderful managers come through over the years. To me, the Giants managers I can recall in my lifetime — Roger Craig, Dusty Baker, Felipe Alou, and Bruce Bochy — balanced the Giants against some practically overwhelming aspect of the organization.
Roger Craig brought patience and a steady hand to a young team.
