Umpire Phil Cuzzi got a bit more involved in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to the Phillies than the San Francisco Giants would have liked.
Once during the game and once afterward, the 69-year-old confronted pitcher Jordan Hicks and outfielder Jung Hoo Lee — who was pinch hitting — about their on-field actions.
The umpire went up to Hicks after the bottom of the seventh and began shouting at him since the 28-year-old had been jawing with the Phillies’ dugout for almost the whole game. Manager Bob Melvin and catcher Sam Huff went up to Cuzzi to try to defuse things as Hicks continued to walk away.
